GAFFNEY, S.C.—Limestone College will honor its 2008 NCAA Division II national champions during the Lady Saints basketball home opener on Wednesday, November 19. The College will recognize Dan Scanlan, the 184-pound wrestling national champion, and the national champion men’s swimming 200 freestyle relay team of Craig Jordens, Chris Harrigan, Anders Melin, and Goran Majlat.

The Saints basketball team opens the regular season tonight in Tigerville, S.C., when Limestone plays North Greenville University at 7 p.m. Limestone has a young team and is eagerly looking toward the future. The Saints lineup features two seniors, four juniors, four sophomores, and five freshmen.

The #15-ranked Limestone wrestling team opened the season on Saturday against #13-ranked Mercyhurst College and #7-ranked Newberry College. The Saints fell to Mercyhurst by a score of 17-24, and to Newberry 15-29.

Limestone earned first place in its first five events and went on to win 9 out of 11 to defeat Gardner-Webb Friday night. The win takes the men to a record of 3-1, leading into the Davidson Invitational. Gardner-Webb suffered its first loss of the season, dropping to 3-1 overall.

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Limestone College junior Melissa Thomas (Easley, S.C.) was named the Conference Carolinas Player of the Year at the 2008 Volleyball Honors Banquet that was hosted by Lees-McRae College on Friday evening. Samantha Flannery (Acworth, Ga.) also garnered Honorable Mention All-Conference honors.

GREENEVILLE, Tenn.— The Lees-McRae Bobcats eliminated the Limestone College Saints from the NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Tournament on Friday. Lees-McRae edged the Saints 2-1 as the Bobcats advance to the Southeast Regional Final on Sunday. Limestone ends its season with an impressive 16-3-2 overall record, as Lees-McRae improves to 17-2-3.

The Limestone College wrestling team enters its fifth year of competition with high expectations. The Saints will open their season on Saturday at the Timken Center as they host Mercyhurst and Newberry. The squad has continued to get better each season since its inaugural year in 2004-05. In the last four seasons, Limestone has produced fifteen East Region place winners, four national qualifiers, three All-Americans, and one national champion.
