MEN’S SWIMMING TAKES 9 OF 11 EVENTS, DEFEATS GARDNER-WEBB 118-86

BOILING SPRINGS, S.C. - Limestone earned first place in its first five events and went on to win 9 out of 11 to defeat Gardner-Webb Friday night. The win takes the men to a record of 3-1, leading into the Davidson Invitational. Gardner-Webb suffered its first loss of the season, dropping to 3-1 overall.
The Saints led off with a first place time (1:34.62) in the 200 Medley Relay, with the team of Linvern Lim (Port Dickson, Malaysia), Chad McKenzie (Durban, South Africa), Matt Parsonage (Durban, South Africa), and Craig Jordens (Cape Town, South Africa). Zeljko Karaman (Split, Croatia) recorded a first place time (10:08.97) in the 1000 Freestyle, paced closely by the Bulldogs Adam Suggs (10:12.91) and Derek Gore (10:16.66).
Limestone was not able to place first and second until the fourth event in the 50 Freestyle. Goran Majlat (Split, Croatia) earned first (21.57), narrowly defeating Anders Melin (Karlstad, Sweden) (21.61). The two would trade places in the 100 Freestyle, with Melin placing first (47.18) and Majlat coming in second (48.06). Gilles Gutnecht (Marsville, France) was able to set a new school record in the 500 Freestyle, with a first place time of 4:46.66, beating the old time by 0.73.
Limestone will return to the water next Friday for the Davidson College Invitational. The meet will begin on Friday at 6 p.m. and continue Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
