BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Anderson University defeated Limestone College 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-21) Friday afternoon in the semifinal round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament in Williams Gymnasium in Banner Elk, N.C. The Lady Trojans will take on Mount Olive College Saturday at 1 p.m. in the championship game.
Limestone took the first win of the match when they used a six point mid-set lead to outscore Anderson 25-23. In a close second set, Anderson took the five of the last six points to even the match at 1-1 with a 25-20 win. The third set proved to be another close one with Anderson once again finishing on top by the score of 25-22. In the fourth set Limestone got down 16-8 but clawed their way back into the game when they tied it at 18-18. The Lady Trojans battled on to clinch the set and match win with a 25-21 victory.
Leading the way for Anderson University was Jamie Lancaster (Fountain Inn, S.C.) with 15 kills and 12 digs. Amanda Edwards (Azle, Texas) added 12 kills and 15 digs, while Ashley Prince (Anderson, S.C.) had 10 kills and six blocks in the winning effort. Maureen Smith also had six blocks for the Lady Trojans. Lindsay Doggett (Jacksonville, Ala.) dished out 38 assists. Adria Mullaney (Tampa, Fla.) had 17 digs, while Jennifer Moffitt added another 15 for the Lady Trojans.
On Limestone’s side it was Nina Milovanovic (Belgrade, Serbia), named to the All-Tournament team, and Melissa Thomas (Easley, S.C.), Conference Player of the Year, with 17 kills apiece. Thomas chipped in 10 digs and Milovanovic added 14 digs. Danielle Seibert (Naperville,, Ill.) put up 35 assists and had 13 digs. Samantha Flannery (Acworth, Ga.) and Lynn Milam (Summerville, S.C.) had five and three blocks, respectively, for the Lady Saints. Chelsea Anthony (Pickens, S.C.) had 18 digs and 2 aces.
"Today was a tough loss for our team," commented Limestone Head Coach Tim Loesch. "We fell behind early in the games we lost, but fought hard to come back and make them close. Unfortunately, we came up short today, however, we had a very good season." Loesch went on to say, "I'm proud of all the young women for their hard work and representing Limestone."
Limestone finishes their season 19-13, while Anderson improves 23-13.
