Former Limestone College men’s lacrosse players Keith Nyberg (‘97) and Nick Carlson (02) have been selected to play in the inaugural National Lacrosse League All-Star Series on October 23-24. The series will feature some of the greatest players in the world including Gary Gait, John Grant, Jr., Brodie Merrill, and Jeff Zywicki. The NLL All-Stars will travel to Melbourne, Australia, where they will team up with the Australian All-Stars for a two game series to be held in the Hisense Arena.
The contests will be the first professional lacrosse games played outside of North America.
Nyberg played for the Limestone squad for four years, serving as a captain in 1996 and 1997. He was a two-time All-America selection for the Saints and also earned All-Deep South Conference honors during his college career. In 1996, Nyberg was honored as an Academic All-American. A 24 year veteran of the sport, Nyberg has also played for the Eltham Club in Australia and won a bronze medal with Team Australia in the 2006 World Championships in London, Ontario.
Carlson was a four year starter for the Saints from 1999-2002. A three-time All-America selection, Carlson was also Attackman of the Year in 2001 and 2002 and the Player of the Year in 2002. Carlson led Limestone to its two NCAA Division II National Championships, serving as a captain in 2002. Following his collegiate career, Carlson was drafted by the New York Saints of the NLL in 2003. He has played the past five seasons for the Colorado Mammoth and was a 2008-09 All-Star Selection. Carlson was inducted into the Limestone College Hall of Fame in 2006 and holds the school record for career goals.
