GAFFNEY, S.C.— The Saints' men's swim team lost a hard fought battle with the Savannah College of Art and Design on Saturday, 146-114, at the Timken Aquatic Center. Limestone also recognized its senior class before the meet for their commitment to the program.
"There was a lot of love on deck tonight for the seniors," pointed out Limestone Head Coach Robert Gecan. "Both the men and the women cheered loud for each other, especially for the senior swimmers charging hard in each of their respective swims. All of our seniors emptied their tanks and it was reflected in the outcome of the final score."
Limestone had several strong performances.
Gilles Gutnecht (Marseille, France) had a "B" cut time in the 200-yard freestyle as he finished in first place.
Blake Schaeffer (Simpsonville, S.C.) won the 1000 freestyle, and
Deniz Bilgin (Instanbul, Turkey) swam a great race in the 200 breaststroke.
Lance Maxwell (Vienna, Austria) took first in the 50 freestyle and Nikolaus Thomas won the 200 backstroke.
The Saints will be back in action in Charlotte, N.C., on February 17-20 at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships.
